Job Description

Position : Project Purchasing Team Lead – PWR Transmission

Organization

Context

  • Project Purchasing is serving all projects in Nexans PWR Transmission
  • Project Purchasing is responsible for all project purchasing activities (except raw materials and chartering) for the different project portfolios in Nexans PWR Transmission
  • This team also provides resources to Tender Subcontracting in close cooperation with Director of Tender Subcontracting and Subcontractor Relationship Management
  • Project Purchasing (35+ purchasers) is divided into 6 purchasing teams (France, UK, Northern Europe/Asia, Mediterranean, US and Transversal) each led by a team lead for each of Nexans PWR Transmission project portfolio
  • All Purchasers, Senior Purchasers and Purchasing Managers within one team report to their Team Lead
  • All the Team Leads reports to Director of Project Purchasing

Purpose

  • Managing Project purchasing requirements for the portfolio including resources
  • Accountable and responsible for establishing the strategy, planning, follow-up and execution of purchasing activities for PWR Transmission project portfolio
  • Responsible for organising the purchasing activities in accordance with Clients’ requirements for PWR Transmission project portfolio
  • Ensure high quality and efficient project execution by close follow up of resources within the team, suppliers, contracts and deliveries

Areas of responsibility

  • Responsible for a team of Project Purchasing Managers, Senior Project Purchasers and/or Project Purchasers
  • Responsible for allocating team members to PWR Transmission projects within his/her portfolio, in agreement with the Director of Project Purchasing
  • Be a mentor for team members, identify competencies gaps and contribute to competence development
  • Ensure the team members and the purchasing process follow strictly the General Management Procedures (GMP), Nexans Purchasing Model and Project Model
  • Ensure the team is setting up and implementing the defined purchasing strategies adapted to the complexity of the package
  • Review the team activity (procurement plan, P&L costing, subcontracting activities, KPIs) and provide regular updates to the Director of Project Purchasing
  • Provide guidance and support negotiation on closing of large subcontracts
  • Support and promote optimization, improvement and standardization of purchasing procedures and processes
  • Contribute to good relations and network with other discipline and support functions within the Projects and Sales & Marketing organizations
  • Participate in project meetings and meetings with suppliers
  • Ensure suppliers used within the portfolio are qualified and participate in supplier audits if necessary
  • Ensure compliance with the Group Code of Ethics and particularly implementation of the Group rules and policies related to the relations with agents and consultants, competition law and the annual actions of the Ethics Compliance Program
  • Ensure high quality and efficient project execution by having the team closely follow up of suppliers, contracts and deliveries;
  • Follow up invoicing and ensure payments to the suppliers as per agreements
  • Ensure savings and cost avoidance are properly reported by the team in accordance with purchasing procedure
  • Support the Director of Project Purchasing on operational tasks

Expected results

  • Make sure the team uses PLM as per Nexans procedure; Store all RfQ, PO, emails with suppliers in PLM, TeamCenter; and when available uses the new functionalities of the PLM
  • Ensure that Project Purchasing Process in Nexans Project Model works as a useful tool for project purchasers
  • Ensure purchasing within the portfolio is done as per Nexans Project Model and Nexans Corporate Purchasing Rules (POM), Nexans General Management Procedures (GMP) and PWR Transmission purchasing procedures
  • Ensure good working conditions and a high competence level in Project Purchasing team and mentor Purchasers and Senior Purchasers of the team
  • Ensure good coordination with all tender & project teams ; establish and maintain Procurement Plans according to Nexans Standards; provide necessary inputs to the monthly reporting, performance reviews and KPI targets
  • Be fair with the suppliers and ensure that tenders are competitive and obtain valid quotes from suppliers
  • Ensure that purchasing is done with a total cost of ownership perspective for the project
  • Ensure that contracts signed have the right level of quality and that a summary of the terms is reviewed and approved as part of the DG2 process.
  • During Project execution, ensure high quality delivery, efficient project execution and minimum variations and claims by close follow up of internal stakeholders, suppliers, contracts and deliveries

Required skills and qualifications

  • Fluent in English and French, Norwegian is a plus
  • Master degree in Engineering , Business or Supply Chain
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in Procurement / Category Management / Supply Chain with proven records of fruitful negotiations or commercial achievements. Project purchasing experience is preferred
  • Previous management experience
  • Extensive experience from international negotiations
  • Experience from any of the following industries: oil, gas, offshore, onshore, maritime, construction
  • Practical experience with ERP systems (eg SAP)
  • Team player / Organised / Ability to coordinate many stakeholders and keep good track of discussions
  • Proactive, efficient and able to achieve results
  • High working capacity and ability to multitask
  • Well-structured and executing tasks in an orderly and systematic manner
  • Good interpersonal communication skills
