We are a vertically integrated manufacturer and our products are made at facilities located in Quebec, Ontario, and Saskatchewan.

Nexans Canada Inc. - Fergus, is a top employer in the region and we are looking to fill the role of Payroll Coordinator/Office Administrator. This role ensures timely and accurate payroll processing for the site, along with administrative support. The site employs approximately 200 employees across several functions, and the Production Supervisor reports to the Production Manager.

 GETTING TO KNOW THE POSITION

The Production Supervisor in our Cabling and Teck Armouring departments will ensure efficient flow of production throughout the department and will manage the machine operators according to production schedules. The supervisor will meet production objectives and ensure profit for the organization while also serving as technical support for the department.

 

HOW YOU MAKE AN IMPACT

  • Organize the flow of production, which includes the manning of the equipment, based on scheduled orders to ensure quality production and delivery reliability.
  • Interact with other departments (Maintenance, Engineering, etc.) regarding the breakdown of equipment, process control problems and quality issues in a timely and efficient manner to minimize lost production time.
  • Lead and support Nexans Excellence Way in the department
  • Deal with customer or supplier product issues through corrective actions.
  • Hire, discipline, terminate and identify training needs for machine operators in order to ensure that they are adequately fulfilling the responsibilities of their position.
  • Effectively communicate new policies and procedures to machine operators in order to ensure compliance.
  • Provide daily support to the machine operators as well as maintain the morale of the hourly employees to ensure a positive working environment.
  • Ensure all health and safety regulations are enforced and complied with and that precautions are taken in order to prevent potential hazards.
  • Control spending within department in order to sustain the budget.
  • Work with purchasing to ensure that raw materials and production supplies for department are quality and cost effective products.
  • Minimize inventory levels while ensuring adequate inventory on hand.
  • Keep abreast of technological developments, pertaining to department that would improve products, processes and/or procedures.
  • Technical support for the department and work with Process Engineering to test new products or process procedures to ensure quality.
  • Keep record of daily production levels, inspection sheets and non-conforming reports in order to monitor and analyze trends and take corrective actions as deemed necessary, as well as to ensure ISO registration.
  • Keep record of hours for department employees as well as overtime and absences, in order to ensure sufficient pay.
  • Interpret the collective agreement to hourly employees as required, as well as deal with grievances and other related issues accordingly in order to maintain the integrity of the agreement
  • Work on various projects as assigned by upper management (QMI auditing, productivity improvement projects, cost reduction projects etc)
  • Perform all other duties as assigned
  • Support and seek opportunities to reduce environmental impacts through waste reductions, recycling and reduction of pollution of air, water, soil and resources.
    • Proper housekeeping observed on the Teck oil recycling tank and spill kit nearby. Maintain good condition of the tank and empty containment when full of oil
    • Do not store IBC containers full of oil on the aisles, as they can be punctured by forklifts resulting in spill
    • Be aware of the floor drain near WLD-01 and ARM-06 area

WHAT YOU BRING TO THE ROLE

  • Exceptional people management skills
  • Good problem solving ability
  • Excellent knowledge of health and safety regulations
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Strong understanding of the production process and a good understanding of scheduling, maintenance, quality assurance
  • Engineering Degree is an asset
  • 5 years manufacturing experience in the wire and cable industry.
  • PC skills
