Located in Norway, our Installation Engineering team consists of more than 50 highly skilled and diverse professionals. Through our unique engineering expertise, we plan and execute marine and land cable installation projects across the globe.

The team works closely with project management, engineering disciplines, offshore operations, survey teams, and clients to overcome environmental constraints and complex project requirements.

As our team continues to grow, we are looking for a Senior Engineer – GIS to strengthen our GIS and geospatial capabilities. The position is based in Norway and reports within the Installation Engineering organization.

HOW YOU MAKE AN IMPACT

As Senior Engineer – GIS, you will play a key role in supporting marine and land cable installation projects through geospatial expertise, data management, and digital mapping solutions.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Designing cable routes and developing project GIS documentation
  • Building, administrating, and maintaining geodatabases and mosaic datasets
  • Creating and maintaining web map applications using ArcGIS Enterprise
  • Managing geospatial data from public and internal company sources
  • Supporting projects with geographic information, analysis, and visualization
  • Acting as the GIS subject matter expert within projects and across the Installation department
  • Delivering GIS support, guidance, and training to internal stakeholders
  • Supporting continuous improvement in geospatial workflows, tools, and digital capabilities

You will collaborate closely with engineers, project teams, offshore specialists, survey personnel, and internal stakeholders to ensure high-quality geospatial solutions that support project execution.

YOUR STARTING POINT

We know that the best candidates do not always match every requirement listed, but here are some examples of the background and experience that can help you thrive in the role:

  • BSc or MSc degree in GIS, Geography, Geomatics, IT, Geospatial Sciences, Earth Sciences, or a related field
  • More than 5 years of relevant GIS experience
  • Strong experience with Esri software, including ArcGIS Desktop, ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Enterprise / ArcGIS Online / ArcGIS Portal, and extensions
  • Knowledge of geospatial presentation, geospatial analysis, and data management
  • Experience supporting projects with GIS solutions and geospatial information
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, project-driven environment with demanding timelines
  • Self-driven mindset with the ability to manage responsibilities independently
  • Fluent in English, both oral and written. Norwegian is considered an advantage.
  • Personal values aligned with those of Nexans: Pioneer, Dedicated, United

The following experience would be considered an advantage:

  • Knowledge of Python or other scripting languages
  • Experience with software such as FME, QGIS, Surfer, OpenLayers, Global Mapper, Eiva Navimodel, or AutoCAD
  • Experience from offshore surveys and familiarity with geophysical survey data
  • Background from energy, offshore, maritime, infrastructure, construction, or related industries
