WELCOMING YOU TO THE TEAM

Located in Norway, France, and the US, our Marine Installation Engineering team consists of more than 60 highly competent and diverse colleagues working across subsea cable installation projects worldwide.

Thanks to the unique engineering expertise within the team, we are able to plan and execute marine and land cable installation projects in some of the most challenging offshore environments globally. We work closely with internal project teams, offshore operations, clients, and subcontractors to deliver safe and efficient project execution.

As our project portfolio continues to grow, we are looking for a new Specialist Engineer – Survey to join our team in Oslo, Norway. In this role, you will report to the Team Lead – Survey.

HOW YOU MAKE AN IMPACT

As a Specialist Engineer – Survey, you will take ownership of survey engineering activities across all phases of subsea cable projects — from early project planning through offshore execution to final as-built documentation.

You will play a key role in route engineering, survey planning, subcontractor management, and offshore operations support, ensuring high-quality data delivery and safe, efficient project execution.

Your main responsibilities include:

Engineering & Project Preparation

  • Plan and manage survey scope for projects, including route surveys and geophysical/geotechnical campaigns
  • Define technical specifications, procedures, and survey requirements
  • Perform GAP analysis of client data and identify additional survey needs
  • Issue route position lists (RPL) and cable coordinates
  • Support route engineering and multidisciplinary design processes

Subcontractor & Supplier Management

  • Evaluate and technically assess survey tenders
  • Specify survey equipment and offshore personnel requirements
  • Follow up subcontractors during planning, offshore execution, reporting, and data delivery
  • Ensure alignment with project requirements, contracts, and Nexans standards

Offshore Operations & Execution

  • Support or participate in offshore survey and installation campaigns
  • Ensure continuous quality control of survey data
  • Contribute to:
    • Pre-lay operations (e.g., seabed clearance and UXO removal)
    • Cable installation monitoring (ROV, touchdown monitoring, as-laid surveys)
    • Protection activities (trenching, rock installation, burial)
  • Deliver survey documentation and operational data to offshore teams

Data, Reporting & Close-Out

  • Manage survey data processing, QA/QC, and reporting
  • Prepare as-built documentation, including key deliverables such as 8-point files
  • Support GIS and geospatial data management within projects

HSE, Risk & Quality

  • Ensure survey activities comply with HSE and quality requirements
  • Participate in risk assessments such as HAZID, HAZOP, and FMEA
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of survey methods and technologies

You boost your impact by actively promoting Quality and HSE.

YOUR STARTING POINT

We know that the best candidates do not always match every requirement listed, but here are some examples of the background and experience that can help you thrive in the role:

  • Degree in Hydrography, Geophysics, Geology, Geomatics, or a related field
(Relevant experience may compensate for formal education.)
  • Extensive experience within offshore survey, subsea cable installation, or marine/Oil & Gas projects
  • Strong understanding of survey acquisition methods, including MBES, SSS, SBP, UXO, and geotechnical surveys
  • Experience with survey planning and subcontractor management
  • Familiarity with survey and GIS tools such as EIVA, SonarWiz, ArcGIS, or QGIS is advantageous
  • Structured and detail-oriented approach to technical work
  • Self-driven with the ability to take ownership of complex tasks
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills across disciplines and teams
  • Proactive mindset with focus on safety, quality, and efficiency
  • Fluent in English, both written and spoken
  • Your personal values align with those of Nexans: Pioneer, Dedicated, United
