Purpose
The HVA department, located in Cortaillod (Switzerland), provide accessories for extra high voltage applications for internal and external customers, all around the world. It is a part of the Power & Transmission (Pwr-T) Business Group, which is present on 3 continents, especially in France, in Norway and in Belgium.
The Quality Engineer is responsible for coordinating and ensuring quality and environmental compliance within the department. A key focus of this role is to ensure the highest standards of quality are maintained across all processes, products, and services, meeting customer expectations, industry standards, and internal requirements. The role also supports the alignment of the department’s quality system with site and Pwr-T business group standards. The Quality Engineer is responsible for consolidating and reporting safety indicators for the department, ensuring that safety remains a core Nexans priority in all operational activities.
Areas of responsibility
Quality Engineering
- Monitor and resolve quality issues follow up on non-conformities, and track non-quality costs.
- Lead root cause analyses (RCA) of internal process deviations and non-conformities, ensuring effective corrective and preventive actions.
- Define, monitor and report quality KPIs (e.g., number of non-conformities, severity levels, defect rates, cost of poor quality).
- Analyze customer feedback to support technical improvements and enhance product performance.
Audits
- Coordinate FATs (Factory Acceptance Tests) with internal stakeholders and external clients, ensuring technical compliance and producing FAT reports.
- Plan, participate, and conduct internal and external quality audits.
Quality Management System
- Ensure that department procedures are up-to-date and update them as necessary.
- Perform process confirmations and validations to maintain product and process integrity.
- Harmonize the local quality system with that of the Pwr-T business group.
- Develop, standardize and maintain inspection and test plans (ITPs).
- Conduct regulatory and normative monitoring and ensure requirements are properly integrated into internal processes.
Environmental Analyses
- Conduct environmental compliance analyses for company products as REACH assessments, Ecopassport, etc.
- Ensure liaison with the Group regarding updates to environmental regulations such as e.g. PFAS, REACH. Be responsible for reporting environmental documentation and KPIs to the Group level.
- Propose and implement initiatives aimed at reducing the environmental impact in the department
Operational safety
- Conduct internal safety audits, safety walks, perform safety observations on workstations, conduct job desk analysis with operators
- Ensure monthly safety reviews with the factory, and weekly safety reporting.
Continuous improvement
- Contribute and/or lead continuous improvement projects.
- Improve the automatization of customer certificates to improve efficiency and reduce errors.
- Simplify and optimize the traceability process to ensure seamless tracking of products and components.
Required skills and qualifications
- University degree in Industrial Engineering, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, Quality management, Environmental Science or a related technical field.
- 3-5 years of industry experience, ideally in a similar position
- Exceptional data analysis, able to identify, confront, and resolve complex problems
- Experience of using lean manufacturing / improvement tools e.g., 5S and problem solving methods would be desirable
- Knowledge of SAP is a plus
- Fluent in French and in English
- Independent and self-driven, with an ability to work within a team
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills (oral and written) with ability to quickly build effective professional working relationships.
